Sharon Gabay is a portrait and headshot photographer with deep experience alongside politicians, business leaders and artists. Hundreds of public figures have been photographed in his studio. His work is defined by a profound understanding of expression, composition and precise lighting, tailored to the message and the goal.
My approach, “Docu-Studio,” combines the controlled posing and lighting of a mobile studio nationwide with documentary street-photography techniques, to extract an authentic, un-posed expression.
His clients include leading organizations and institutions: the Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) — a documentation project of some 80 of Israel's senior cancer researchers, among them two Nobel laureates in Chemistry, Prof. Aaron Ciechanover and Prof. Avram Hershko; the Jerusalem Municipality under Mayor Moshe Lion; the Israel Export Institute; and the Ministry of Religious Services.
Sharon is the author of six widely recognized photography books. His books were selected for the permanent collections of the National Library of Israel and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
His latest book, "Jerusalemites," is a trilingual visual essay (Hebrew, English, Arabic) documenting 15 years of street photography in Jerusalem — a moving human archive of the city's mosaic in all its contrasts.
His work has been shown in solo exhibitions and respected galleries in Israel and around the world, including New York, Montreal, Washington and Santo Domingo. Among other venues, it has been exhibited at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the U.S. Congress in Washington, and the Knesset.
Dozens of his photographs have been used in Israel's official public diplomacy — published on the official accounts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Israeli embassies worldwide, in seven languages. See the photographs across Israel's MFA channels →
